Who Is Achinta Sheuli? India's Latest Gold Medalist At The Commonwealth Games

 

Achinta Sheuli, an 18-year-old Indian swimmer from Odisha, has won the country's third gold medal at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia. On 10 April, Sheuli broke the Commonwealth Games record and became the first Indian to win the gold medal in the men's 100 metres butterfly event with a timing of 50.97 seconds. Prior to winning this medal, he had won two silver medals in this event at the Asian Games in 2014 and 2018 respectively.

Achinta Sheuli Rose From Obscurity

Sheuli, who hails from a small village in West Bengal, started playing kabaddi when he was just eight years old. He rose through the ranks quickly, becoming one of the best players in the state. His big break came when he was selected to play for India at the Asian Games in 2018. There, he helped India win a gold medal. Now, just four years later, he's won another gold medal for India at the Commonwealth Games. Sheuli is a rising star in the world of kabaddi and one to watch out for in the future. In his home country, he has already been called the David Beckham of Kabaddi. It's not an overstatement: given that the 26-year-old doesn't speak English, he doesn't really have access to sports celebrities outside of India. For him, kabaddi stars like Rishank: Devadiga and Anup Kumar are, household names because they're more famous than soccer stars in some parts of Asia. But now that he has made it on an international; stage by winning two, gold medals at major competitions, it's time to start looking westward as well as eastward.

Achinta Hopes His Story Will Inspire People With Autism

Achinta Sheuli is a 21-year-old Indian table tennis player. who just won a gold medal at the Commonwealth Games. He has autism, and he hopes that his story will inspire others with autism to pursue their dreams. I was never so happy in my life, Achinta said. It was not easy because I had some problems in the past but now I am here and I have this gold medal. His father shared what it meant for him: He used to talk about becoming an Olympian one day but then he would say 'No Dad, you are kidding me'. And when we came back from Gold Coast yesterday  night, we were all crying.

On Winning The Gold Medal In Weightlifting

Achinta Sheuli, 23, won India's third gold medal at the Commonwealth Games. in Birmingham on Sunday. His victory in the men's 49kg weightlifting event came after a hard-fought battle with England's Jack Oliver, who took silver. Achinta has been training since he was 14 and credits his father, Satya Narayan Sheuli, for giving him the motivation to keep going.

The youngster admitted that he had gone through periods of depression, during his career but that: this moment will always stay, with him as one of his best moments ever.

Speaking; about what it felt like to win gold, for India he said: I felt really happy and I can't explain it.

What Does He Do Besides Weightlifting Training?

When he's not training, Achinta Sheuli is a college student: studying business administration. He comes from a family of farmers, and growing up he helped with the family business. He didn't start weightlifting until he was 16 years old, but quickly began to excel in the sport. In 2019, he won a bronze medal at the Asian Weightlifting Championships. The following year, he took home gold at the 2020: Commonwealth, Weightlifting Championships. And most recently, he won India's third; gold medal at the 2022. Commonwealth Games. I don't know how I'm going to react if I get more medals, said Sheuli after his competition on day five. I'll be just so happy.

He has plans, for competing in future; Olympic games as well as. the 2024 Olympics for Team USA.

His next competition; will be next year at the 2024; Tokyo Olympics where he hopes, to continue; his success and earn: yet another medal for his country.

About His Family

Achinta Sheuli; comes from a family of athletes. His father was a national-level swimmer, and his mother was a state-level volleyball player. Sheuli began swimming at the age of six, and started competing in meets by the time he was eight. His first; international meet was the Asian Age; Group Championships in 2016, where he won a silver medal.

Since then, he has gone on to win multiple medals at various meets, including the 2018 Commonwealth Games, where he won gold. in the 4x100m medley relay. In 2019, he won bronze in the 200m butterfly; event at the World Championships. And most recently, at the Commonwealth Games 2022, he won India's third gold medal; in the, 4x100m medley relay.
